Mastering Relocation: Strategic Advantages

Mastering Relocation: Strategic Advantages

By Rimey | June 31, 2023 | 10:00 AM

In every season of the game, relocation becomes a pivotal step for all players. It's a sophisticated feature brimming with strategic benefits, enhancing your battle prowess, resource acquisition, and defensive capabilities. Becoming proficient in this process unlocks a comprehensive and formidable edge. Given that battles and objectives may lie far from your spawn zone, relocation holds significance for every player.

This guide will cover:

- In-depth insights into the art of relocation.
- Expert tips for each step of the process.
- A detailed explanation of defending your city during enemy attacks.
- Essential information on this crucial subject.

How Relocation Works
Since the update on May 31, 2023, the relocation system has been partly modified, adding extra strategic depth. Let's see how it works.

Step 1: Land Arrangement
To relocate, you first need to occupy a 3x3 square of resource tiles. These 9 tiles must only be in contact with other resource tiles, with no marshes, rivers, mountains, intersections, other bases, or structures. The only allowed different tiles are fortresses built by other players, which were originally resource tiles. Generally, this foundation of 9 tiles should be in a region controlled by your faction.

Step 2: Camp Construction
Once you've selected the central tile of the 3x3 square, you can build a temporary camp. There are certain prerequisites for this:

- A foundation of 3x3 tiles.
- The foundation should only be surrounded by resource tiles.
- Your faction (not the united faction) must control the region.
- The camp cannot be built in the region Amon Lanc/Dol Guldur region.

There's a cost for constructing the camp: resources (10k Wood, 10k Iron, 20k Stone), and a Relocation item. You can exclusively obtain this item from the community store, which has also been modified. The items in the store are always the same, and the Relocation item can be purchased every time the store refreshes, which happens every 3 days.

The camp is built over 2 hours and initially has 10,000 durability points(similar to fortresses), which is quite low. After construction, the durability increases to 150,000, which is still not extensive.

Step 3: Relocation
Once the temporary camp is built, you can finally relocate. There are still some conditions to consider, similar to those for building the camp, which might change if adversaries capture the region in the meantime. Additionally, all armies must be inside the city before you can relocate. After that, bon voyage! You can relocate again after 3 days.

With the addition of the temporary camp, the time required for relocation is longer, so you need to ensure the region is not lost before the camp construction finishes.

Tips
Understanding how relocation works is relatively easy, but the real challenge lies in choosing the new zone based on season parameters, enemies, objectives, etc., and knowing when to make the move.

Follow your leaders' orders. If they suggest relocation zones, there's a reason related to your group's objectives.

If you have to decide on a relocation zone, analyze the map keeping in mind your short-term and long-term objectives, enemy movements and ambitions, etc. Considering all factors is crucial as each situation is unique.

At the beginning of the season, if resources around your starting position are scarce, consider moving to less occupied areas to develop a strong economy.

During battles, move closer to the action to minimize reinforcement times. However, don't get too close; enemies might attack and relocate your base. The ideal location is behind an impassable barrier, like a river or a small mountain range.

Consider your team, and if there are collective relocation zones, leave enough space between your base and your neighbor's to accommodate others.

Defending Your Base: Strategies, Advantages, and Resource Management
When enemies attack your base, you might have concerns if it's your first time experiencing this. Rest assured, you won't lose all your troops or resources.

During an enemy attack, remove the troops from all your commanders, except for your combat commanders if you want to defend. Units with no Commander are protected.

When defending in your city, you have several advantages. The enemy doesn't know if there are defenders, while you can often deduce the attacking commander with a bit of cleverness (e.g., surrounding your base with tiles and checking reports). The archery tower also inflicts damage to all enemies during each round.

If the enemy eliminates all your armies, you can instantly replenish units, and if your barracks are empty, the enemy must inflict siege damage to destroy the base (the city's durability increases with the great hall and walls). At that point, you can try to destroy the enemy siege armies.

If the enemy manages to destroy your base, you lose one-fifth of your resources, and your base reappears at a random location in a region controlled by your faction. Use as many resources as possible beforehand to avoid losing a lot. To prevent appearing far away and being unable to relocate for 3 days, anticipate and base yourself in relatively secure locations.

Special Exceptions
In the "Rings of Power Campaign," you can relocate (and reappear if your city is destroyed) in all neutral regions on the map.

In the "Rangers Rise Campaign," rangers can relocate daily, and their base occupies a 2x2 area.

With the village, temporary camps have two additional useful and interesting functions (see the guide).

When at war and occupying tiles in an enemy region, those tiles are in conflict for a certain duration, and even if your faction gains control of the region, you cannot build a camp on those conflicted tiles.
